ABSTRACT
Metaxalone is an oral drug that relaxes skeletal muscle the muscles that control movement of the body. Metaxalone is indicated in for the treatment of strains, sprains and spasms. The aim of the present work was to prepare Metaxalone Fast disintegrating tablets (FDT’s) based on the use of tween-80 and Microcrystalline cellulose with metaxalone by using liquisolid technique to improve the solubility and dissolution of this practically insoluble drug. The prepared complex was incorporated into FDT’s containing different fillers and disintegrants. A total of 14 formulations were prepared by using cross povidone, xanthan gum, pregelatinised starch as polymers. Pre-formulation studies were performed for the drug and excipients as per the standard
procedures. The characterization of formulations was performed. Various evaluation parameters like hardness, weight variation, friability, Invitro dissolution (98.56%), Invitro disintegration (5 sec) and invitro salivary dispersion time (9 sec) shows good results for F14 formulation. The release rate of drug from F14 formulation follows first order model. So, Finally F14 formulation was optimized.
Keywords: Metaxalone, tween-80 and Microcrystalline cellulose, liquisolid technique.
