BIOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF A SIDDHA DRUG KUKKIL CHOORNAM

ABSTRACT
Siddha medicine is the traditional medicine system in India. It has its
own remarkable value in the enrichment of human life through
potential medicines. In human body, Skin is an extraordinary structure
which acts as a barrier to protect body from harmful environment. Skin
ulcers often cause a chronic discomfort and disability. Siddha system
deals the acute and chronic ulcers with a wide range of drugs. Kukkil
choornam, a Siddha drug taken from a classical Siddha literature. The
aim of the study was to analyse the biochemical composition in this
trial drug. The extract was prepared from 5grams of trial drug and it
was treated with specific reagents. The change in the colour of the
extract showed the presence of Calcium, Ferrous iron, Starch and Unsaturated compounds in
the trial drug. Thus I conclude, the presence of these chemicals revealed the enhancement of
healing action in skin ulcers.
