The management includes Shodhan (Biopurification of Dosha),
Shaman (Pacification of Dosha) & Topical application. The
formulations for topical application and internal medication (Shodhan
& Shaman) were developed for the present study with the aim to

standardized according to API guidelines. A prospective, randomized,
open labeled, parallel study was designed. 75 patients with acne vulgaris were randomized
into 3 groups: group A received oral formulation, group B received topical application and
group C received combined treatment i.e. oral formulation & topical application for 60 days
with dose for Shodhan – 3gm (H.S- after meal), Shaman – 1 gm (BD- after meals) and topical
application - as required (H.S.). The outcome measurements were examined using
1.Ayurvedic parameters -symptom rating scale for Kandu (Itching), Vedana (pain),
Vaivarnya (discolouration) and shotha (Inflammation) and 2. Conventional parameters-
Global acne grading system, Indian authors grade Acne vulgaris and photographic evaluation.
The results are highly significant at 5% level of significance (p < 0.05). Conclusion –
