ABSTRACT
A rapid and simple high performance thin layer chromatographic
method was established for the identification and the quantification of
lupeol in Achyranthes bidentata. The separation of the compound was
done on the pre coated silica gel 60F254 and solvents n-hexane: ethyl
acetate (8:2 v/v) as for the elution of marker compound from the plant
extracts. The calibration curve was found to be linear between 2-
10μg/band with correlation coefficient of 0.996. The amount of lupeol
in 50% methanolic extracts of leaf and stem samples was found 12.35
and 8.30mg/gm DWE respectively. The developed technique is simple,
accurate, rapid and selective for the estimation of lupeol from Achyranthes bidentata and
other herbal formulations.
