STUDIES ON QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF PLANTS CALOTROPIS GIGANTEAN AND CURCUMA NEILGHERRENSIS
Gunalan Manjula* and Thangadurai Chitra
ABSTRACT Objectives: The present objective of the study was to find out the presence of phytochemicals in the three different extracts of two plants namely Calotropis gigantean and Curcuma neilgherrensis by both qualitative and quantitative screening methods. Methods: The phytochemical qualitative analysis, compounds such as steroids, reducing sugars, triterpenoids, sugars, alkaloids, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, anthroquinones and amino acids were screened in six extracts by using standard methods. Results: The three extracts (methanol, petroleum ether and acetone) were performed for both the plants Calotropis gigantean and Curcuma neilgherrensis. In both the plant methanol extracts showed positive results like presence of flavonoid, alkaloids, steroids, terpenoids, phenols, saponins, tanins and carbohydrates. The methanol extracts showed highest amount of phytochemicals when compared with other solvent extracts. Conclusions: More active compounds will be screened from the selected plants of Calotropis gigantean and Curcuma neilgherrensis and they may be used for medicinal purposes in future. Keywords: Medicinal plants, Calotropis gigantean; Curcuma neilgherrensis, Phytochemical activity, Qualitative and Quantitative. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
