ROLE OF MICRONUTRIENT IN HEALTH

ABSTRACT
Nutrients are organic or inorganic complexes contained in food. There are about 50 different nutrients which are normally supplied through the food we eat. Each nutrient has specific functions in the body. Most natural food contain more than one nutrient. UNICEF(1998) define Micronutrients as nutrient that are only needed by body in minute amounts, which play leading roles in the production of enzyme, hormones and other substances and al so help to regulate growth activity, development and function of the immune and reproductive system. Micronutrient of known public health importance include the followings: Zinc, iodine, selenium, copper, Vitamins.- A,E,C,D,B2.B6
and folate.
