ABSTRACT
A simple, rapid and economic UV spectrophotometric method has been developed using solvent blend of Ethanol:Water in the ratio of 1:1 (v/v) for estimation of Glibenclamide in pure and pharmaceutical formulations including both conventional (like tablets) and novel (like solid dispersions). The ethanol is used as a solubiliser for hydrophobic drugs and the water is used as solubilizing solvent for hydrophilic polymers. At a predetermined λmax of 293nm, it was found linear in the range of 4–32μg/ml and exhibited good correlation coefficient (R2=0.999) and excellent mean recovery (99.25-99.47% and 99.09-99.26%). This method was effectively applied to the determination of Glibenclamide content and the results were found in good agreement
with the label claims. The method was also validated for various parameters like linearity, accuracy and precision and the results obtained proved that this method can be employed for the routine analysis of Glibenclamide in pure as well as in both conventional and novel pharmaceutical formulations.
