ABSTRACT
The objective of the present investigation was to develop and evaluate
microemulsion based gel for topical delivery of Bifonazole. The
solubility of Bifonazole in various oils, surfactants and co-surfactants
were checked to identify components of the microemulsion. The
pseudo-ternary phase diagrams were plotted to identify the area of
microemulsion existence. Xantham gum was selected for the
formulation of microemulsion based gel. The prepared formulations of
Bifonazole Microemulsion based gel was evaluated by checking its
pH, spreadability, rheological studies and in-vitro drug release studies.
The Bifonazole Microemulsion based gel showed good in vitro drug
release and anti-fungal activity. The Bifonazole Microemulsion based
gel has potential be successfully used for the topical treatment of
dermatomycoses.
Keywords: Microemulsion, Bifonazole, pseudo-ternary phase diagram, dermatomycoses.
