SYNTHESIS AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF SOME NOVEL SCHIFF BASES OF HALOGEN SUBSTITUTED SALICYLALDEHYDE
Khushal G. Karamunge* and Kirti S. Niralwad
ABSTRACT
A simple and efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of some novel Schiff bases via the reaction of aromatic halogen substituted salicylaldehyde with aniline derivatives under reflux conditions for appropriate time to furnish the desired product in good to excellent yield. This catalyst provides clean conversion; greater selectivity and easy workup make this protocol practical and economically attractive. The synthesized compounds have been screened for antibacterial, antifungal activity.
Keywords: Schiff bases, halogen substituted salicylaldehyde, substituted aniline, antibacterial, antifungal activity.
