ANTI-INFLAMMATORY INVESTIGATION OF KARANJ- OIL ISOLATED FROM PONGAMIA PINNATA (SEEDS) IN EXPERIMENTAL ANIMAL MODELS

ABSTRACT
Pongamia pinnata (L) Pierre Family: Leguminosae (Papiloionoidae) is (Seeds) are used in folk medicine for a treatment of inflammation, arthritis, fever, abdominal colic, inflammation(externally), Alzheimer’s disease and gout. The present study was designed to assess anti- inflammatory activity of Karanj- oil isolated from Pongamia pinnata (Seeds). Karanj –oil of the seeds of Pongamia pinnata (0.1,0.2 and 0.5ml/kg) was found to have significant anti-inflammatory activity against (i) Carrageenin induced (ii) Cotton pellet induced granuloma pouch and (iii) Adjuvant arthritis models in rats.
