ABSTRACT
This study was planned to investigate the effects of cinnamon supplementation on gut flora levels, satiety hormone and liver function among type2 diabetic obese patients. Methods and Patients: 30 obese subjects with type 2 diabetes from both sexes (15 males and 15 females) doses of 1 g of cinnamon were equally administered orally in the form of cinnamon powder into 500 mg per capsule with breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 90 days. Control group received capsules of containing placebo. Blood samples were obtained on the beginning day of the experiment and at the end of 90 days. The gut flora diversity
levels and GPT, GOT and leptin, ghrelin hormone were measured. Resulrs: The study showed significant reduced in ghrelin hormone level by 1.47% compared to placebo group which are showed 0.93% reduction and the level of leptin hormone was showed significant increased in cinnamon group by 5.5% compared to placebo group which are shoed 1.6%. The second assessment of cinnamon effect on liver function they was showed reduction in GPT level by 15.2 and GOT by 25% respectively compared to placebo group which are reduced GPT by 14.8% GOT by 17.2%. Conclusion: This study showed that consumption of cinnamon supplementation may be useful in control and decreasing of fasting blood glucose levels and lipid profiles among type 2 diabetes obese individuals.
