Abstract

EXTRACTION AND DETERMINATION OF ANTHOCYANIN PIGMENT FROM HIBISCUS SABDARIFFA CALYX BY THE USE OF UV AND HPTLC METHOD

ABSTRACT

Objective: Extraction and determination of anthocyanin pigment from Hibiscus sabdariffa calyx. Method: Calyces were dried, powdered and extracted with ethanolic solvent acidified with citric acid. The extract then was examined by the use of HPTLC and by using UV at 520 nm. Results: The acidified ethanolic solvent show a significant high percent of the anthocyanin. Conclusion: The HPTLC study showed a pure anthocyanin pigment that extracting from the Hibiscus calyx.
