Abstract

ISOLATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF BACTERIA FROM SOIL AFFECTED BY PAPER INDUSTRY FOR PRODUCTION OF INDUSTRIAL ENZYMES FOR WASTE MANAGEMENT

Pooja Arya*, Dr. Neeraj Tandan, Amar Abhishek and Yashaswi

ABSTRACT

In this study, physicochemical parameters of soil affected by pulp paper discharge revealed that various pollution parameters were quite higher than the WHO standards. Further, results obtained after chemical characterization by GC-MS analysis showed that the sample extracted from affected soil had higher load of organic constituents comprising, 2-methoxy-4-vinylphenol (RT-10.13), dichloro acitic acid (RT-21.36), 2-methoxyphenol (RT-10.13), 2-Dichlorophenol (RT-11.57), phthalic derivative (RT-15.76) pentachlorophenol (RT-17.90) etc. Results obtained from GC-MS analysis of affected soil sample showed that the organic pollutants are highly mutagenic and carcinogenic properties, which are in agreement with the physico-chemical properties of the compounds expected to be retained in soil. Many authors have reported that the bacteria isolated from polluted site showing good potential for the removal of a verity of toxic pollutants. That’s why we have isolated and identified six potential bacteria : R1: Bacillus pumilus; R2: Brevundimonas diminuta; R3: Aeromonas punctata; R4: Enterobacter hormaechei; R5: Citrobacter braakii; R6: Brevundimonas terrae from contaminated soil. These bacteria received great attention because of their potential to remove pollutants from environment without harsh side effect. That’s why; this study has been extended to compare the enzymatic behaviour of isolated and their respective wild strains. Results revealed that isolated bacterial strains were showed about two fold high enzymatic assay compare to their respective wild strains. This result indicated that there is a wide application of these six bacterial strains in industrial sector and waste management sector.
