ABSTRACT
Background: Lakshadi guggul has been used in oriental medicine to treat a variety of remedies, including Osteoporosis. Lakshadi guggul is rich in estrogen potentiazing contents have been identified as major active component exhibiting neurotrophic, anti-apoptotic and neuroprotective effects. Present study is to evaluate Lakshadi guggul on experimentally induced Global Cerebral Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in rats. Material and methods: Neuroprotective activity was carried out by global cerebral ischemia on swiss albino rat by carotid artery occlusion for 17 min followed by 24 hr reperfusion. Then after 24 hr blood sample was collected by retro orbital route and after that rats were sacrificed by cervical dislocation method, then brain was removed for various biochemical analysis.
Keywords: Estrogen, lipid peroxidation, lactate dehydrogenase, Interlukin-1, Malondialdehyde, Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances.
