SELF EMPLOYMENT THROUGH CULTIVATION OF MEDICINAL PLANTS IN BLOCK CHAMBA DISTRICT TEHRI GARHWAL, UTTARAKHAND

ABSTRACT
India represents 15 Agro-climatic zones. It estimated about 17000-18000 species of flowering plants of which 6000-7000 plant species have medicinal usage in folk and documented system of medicine, as like Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Charak Samhita and Homeopathy. India represent about 960 species of medicinal plants are estimated to be in trade of which 178 species have annual consumption levels in excess of 100 metric tons. Tehri Garhwal is a hilly district in Uttarakhand state, is rich in medicinal plants. Vegetationally it is one of the lush green and important block of the district. The main purpose of present paper is to generate self employment through cultivation of common medicinal plants in waste lands. These plants are commonly native in the area but the local residue is not known about the more
medicinal uses of the plants and actual market cost. If the medicinal plants of the area have to be properly grown, it can be generate self employment at their home/native place and improve the economy of the state and protect to retreat of local inhabitants.
