BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF CARICA PAPAYA LINN.: A SHORT REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Papaya (Carica papaya) is a tropical fruit plant having commercial importance because of its high nutritive and medicinal value. Papaya cultivation had its origin in Southern Mexico and Costa Rica. However, India leads the world in papaya production with an annual output of about 3 million tonnes. Its synonym “common men‟s fruit” symbolizes its various beneficial uses in human wellness. Nonetheless, other plant parts of C. papaya are also useful, but understudied. The present review summarizes the various biological activities of C. papaya plant, including papaya fruit.
