ABSTRACT
This review highlight that herbal bioenhencer, they themselves do not posses any pharmacological action of their own but when co-administered with active drug molecules, enhance their bioavailability and efficacy. A bioenhancer is an agent capable of enhancing bioavailability and efficacy of a drug with which it is co-administered, without any pharmacological activity of its own at therapeutic dose used. Herbal bioenhancers plays an important role in increasing the bioavailability of different classes of drugs, such as anti-hypertensives, anticancer, antiviral, anti-tubercular and antifungal drugs at low doses. This paper highlights various natural compounds that can be utilized as an efficient bioenhancer. Several herbal compounds including allicin, quercetin, naringin and curcumin have demonstrated capability to improve the pharmacokinetic parameters of several drug molecules. Bioenhencer are beneficial for economical benefits as well as reduction of drug toxicity.
