ABSTRACT
Objectives: The plant Boerhavia diffusa belonging to the family of Nyctaginaceae. It is very common by the waysides in very poor soils and on stone revetments. It has been reported to be useful in treating The plant used for Analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity, Hepatoprotective activity, Diuretic and Anti- cancer effects have been shown in several studies. The present study was designed to investigate the Anti diabetic nephropathy activity of aqueous extract of Boerhavia diffusa Method: diabetic nephropathy induced by streptozotocin dissolved in citrate buffer (PH-4.5) at a dose of 45mg/kg i.p. in Wistar albino rats. Extract were administered in dose level (200mg/kg).
Results: The aqueous extract of Boerhavia diffusa significantly reduced, the elevated levels of Blood glucose, Glycated haemoglobin, Vascular endothelial growth factor, Tumor necrosis factor-, Interleukin-1 beta condition has shown considerable decline. Aqueous extract (200 mg/kg) of Boerhavia diffusa was more significant in these studies. Conclusion: The present study concludes that the aqueous extract of Boerhavia diffusa possesses significant Anti diabetic nephropathy activity in streptozotocin induced rats at a dose of 45mg/kg i.p. in Wistar albino rats. Thus, it has been scientifically proved that the traditional knowledge obtained from this plant.
