Abstract

SYNTHESIS CHARACTERIZATION AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY STUDIES OF SOME TRANSITION METAL COMPLEXES DERIVED FROM N1-(BENZO [1,3]DIOXOL-5-YLMETHYLENE)-5-METHYL-3-PHENYL-1H-INDOLE-2-CARBOHYDRAZIDE

ABSTRACT

A series of new metal complexes Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(ll) have been prepared with a new Schiff baseN1-(benzo[1,3]dioxol-5-ylmethylene)-5-methyl-3-phenyl-1H-indole-2-carbohydrazide. The newly synthesized compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, UV-Visible, IR spectra, 1HNMR spectra, mass spectra, powder X-ray diffraction data, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, ESR and TGA. The newly prepared Schiff base behaves as tridentate ONO donor ligand and forms the complexes of the type M(L)2in case of Cu(II), Co(II) and Ni(II) and M(L) type in case of Zn(II) complex. All the compounds have been screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activities by minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) method. The DNA cleavage activities were studied using Calf-thymus DNA as target molecule. Furthermore, theAntioxidant activity were determined using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH). The ligand exhibited good antioxidant activity than its metal complexes.

Keywords: Schiff base; Metal complexes; Powder XRD; Antimicrobial; Antioxidant; DNA cleavage.
