ABSTRACT

The study was designed to explore the best treatment regimen for mastitis cases in goats. Goats screened for intramammary infection. Eighteen goats suffering with clinical mastitis and six apparently healthy goats were selected for the study. Group A, (n=6) mastitic goats were subjected to routine antibiotic therapy (Amoxicillin + Cloxacilin @ 10mg/kg b.wt. by intramuscular route with supportive NSAID therapy for 5 days) alone. Group B, (n=6) mastitic goats were treated with Mastilep gel (BID after milking for 5 day) (M/s Ayurvet Limited) topically on the udder and oral antioxidant trace mineral- Uniselit (5 gm o.d for 5 days) (M/s Ayurvet Limited) and Group C (n=6), mastitic goats were administered antibiotic as well as treated with Mastilep gel (topical herbal gel) and Uniselit (oral antioxidant trace mineral supplement) (M/s Ayurvet Limited) as adjunct therapy. Apparently healthy goats kept in control group D (n=6). Parameters viz. somatic cell count, electrical conductivity, quarter cure rate were studied during the trial. Analysis of results revealed that Mastilep gel (M/s Ayurvet Limited) and Uniselit (M/s Ayurvet Limited) preparations with suitable antibiotic was highly efficacious and promising therapy in treating mastitis cases in goats.
