Abstract

EVALUATION OF IN VITRO ANTI-INFLAMMATORY ACTIVITY ON LEAVES OF CALLISTEMON CITRINUS AGAINST THE DENATURATION OF PROTEIN

Mohit Kabdal* and Dr. Anita Singh

ABSTRACT

Objective: In the evaluation of in-vitro anti-inflammatory activity on extract of leaves of Callistemon citrinus by using inhibition of albumin denaturation technique. Method-The different extract i.e. chloroformic, ethanolic and aqueous extract was used for incubation with egg albumin at various concentrations in controlled experimental environment and subjected to know absorbance to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity. Diclofenac sodium as the standard/ reference drug was used. Result: This study explained about the concentration dependent inhibition of protein (egg albumin) denaturation by the various extract concentration. The effect of standard drug (Diclofenac sodium) was found to be less than that of test extract. Conclusion: From the study it can be deduce that the different extract of Callistemon citrinus possessed marked in-vitro anti-inflammatory activity, the aqueous extract possess larger activity than chloroformic, ethanolic and standard sample (Diclofenac sodium) against the denaturation of protein. The effect reasonably due to the terpenoids and flavonoids content present in the extract.

Keywords: Callistemon citrinus, Anti-inflammatory, Protein denaturation, Diclofenac sodium.
