ABSTRACT
The skin is a multitask organ & it has unique ability to carry out multiple & wide ranging roles. The skin acts as protective barrier against UV rays, it also produce inflammatory mediators, shows anti bacterial activity, show antioxidant activities, anti allergic, thermo regulations, sensations, also act as mechanical and Chemical barrier. Tridosha plays important role in maintaining health of skin. Out of this tridosha pitta form, the bhrajak pitta stands prime in protective function of skin. Thickness in all the seven skin layer also important for the biochemical & mechanical firmness of skin. Kapha & oja guna provide norishment to skin for maintaining its protectiveness. Melanin, transurokinin acid, vitamin D and C, metabolites work as absorptive
for UV light and protect from Photic damage. The collagen & elastin fiber are found in upper papillary & lower reticular dermis gives mechanical protection by maintaining shape & texture of skin. Keratinocytes in stratum corneum produce corneocytes & intercorneocytes lipids which are responsible for epidermal permeability barrier & act as a water resistance because of hydrophobic interface of cornified lipids. Stratum spinosum contain specialized cells for immune response called as langarhance cells protecting skin from allergies & microbes.
