ABSTRACT
Memecylon umbellatum is an endemic plant from Western Ghats of
Karnataka. The plant was successively extracted with solvents of
different polarity (methanol and chloroform) and the extracts were
analyzed for the anticancer activity in vitro. Methanol extract showed a
very good activity (200μg/ml) compared to its counterpart on
chloroform extract. The minimum inhibition of methanol extract was
found to be 42% at 20μg/ml. Results of the study indicated a good
anticancer activity of the methanol extract. Further work is in progress
to isolate the novel compound of anticancer activity.
