EFFECT OF DESIGN ON CONTROLLED DRUG DELIVERY OF MATRIX FORMULATIONS

ABSTRACT
In the present study matrix and triple layer matrix tablets of aceclofenac sodium were formulated using natural polymer gum acacia as matrix forming agent and crosspovidone as immediate layers. The prepared tablets were evaluated for hardness, friability, drug content and in- vitro drug release studies. Marked differences were noted between MTX1 (80.6%) and MTS1(97.2%) at the end of 10 hrs. This indicates decrease in drug release from matrix tablet as compared to multi-layered matrix tablet. The best formulation ie: MTS1 was further analysed for kinetics studies and it was concluded that, it is best fitted in Peppas- Koshmeyer’s model. The triple layer matrix tablet showed
better sustained effect as compare to plain matrix tablet.
