ABSTRACT
Nyctanthes arbor-tristis Linn, commonly known as Parijata, night jasmine or Harshringar, belongs to family Nyctanthaceae. It is a hardy large shrub or small tree. It is cultivated in many parts of India, Swidely distributed in outer Himalayan ranges from China to Nepal, Assam, Burma, Bengal and Central India to Godavari. In this study we measure different phytochemical compounds in the leaf and stem extract of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis. The methanolic extract revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoid, glycosides, saponins, tannins, steroids and terpenoids and the aqueous extract of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis contain alkaloids, steroids, saponins, tannin, terpenoids and glycosides. The present study gives a chance for the medicinal use of leaf and stem extract of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis and phytochemical screening could be helpful in further experimental analysis.
