ABSTRACT
Bryonia laciniosa linn. (Cucurbitaceae) is an annual herb used in traditional medicine for the cure of metabolic disorder such as Diabetes mellitus. The methanolic leaf extract of B. laciniosa shows antidiabetic activity through its hypolipidemic effect in alloxan induced diabetic rats. Albino rats of either sex were used for the study. The albino rats used for the experimental work were segregated into five groups with a minimum of at least 6 in each group. The groups include Non diabetic (Normal control), diabetic control, diabetic conventional treated (with Glibenclamide) and diabetic treated (with low dose 200 mg/kg and high dose 400 mg/kg of methanolic leaf extact of B. laciniosa). Diabetic rats treated with methanolic leaf extract of Bryonia laciniosa reduced total cholesterol, triglycerides, SGPT, SGOT levels whenv compared to untreated diabetic rats.
