Kashinath S. H.*, R. S. Sarashetti, V. G. Kanthi and K. A. Patil

ABSTRACT

Introduction: In Pharmaceutical process & quality product utilization of quality raw material is one of the important step. Vaidyas of ancient days, themselves used to collect the raw materials herbs based on their organoleptic characters, i.e., typical taste, texture, smell, color, and utilized them in preparing medicines. Based on their own observations, principles of drug processing and ideal qualities of finished drugs, etc., have been documented. The principles were developed based upon the scientific parameters prevailing in those days. Materials & Method: Copper flake & copper old burnt binding wire were subjected to Shodhana, Marana and Amrutikarana procedures as per Rasaratna samuchaya & Rasamritam. Required materials for the process were collected from Pharmacy of BLDEA's AVS Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya. Result: Copper flake sample has shown loss of 4.21% during Samanya shodhana, 8.88% during vishesha shodhan, 15% loss during marana process and 2.33% during amrutikarana process. In case of copper old burnt binding wire concerned it was 3.33%, 9.30%, 36% respectively in samanya shodhana, vishesha shodhana & marana procedure. Thus more quantity loss was indicating poor quality of raw material copper old burnt binding wire compared to copper flake sample.

Keywords: Raw material, Tamra bhasma, Pharmaceutical process, Copper flake, copper old burnt binding wire.
