ABSTRACT

One of the most critical aspects related to drug delivery systems is the delivery of appropriate amount of drug at the desired site. Oral drug administration is the most preferred route of drug delivery; however, it suffers from certain drawbacks. Depending upon the area of interest, drug delivery systems include intranasal, system administration, oral, parenteral and mucosal routes. The current pharmaceutical research focuses on the development of novel drug delivery systems to improve factors such as patient compliance and tolerability. Moreover, these drug delivery systems were evaluated for their potential systemic and local effects, besides the associated adverse events. Nasal administration of drug has gained significant consideration owing to its potential role in avoiding first-pass metabolism and enzymatic degradation of the drug. Moreover, this route of administration has been found to increase the residence time of the drug, bioavailability, and decreased mucocilliary clearance.
