METFORMIN: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Background: Metformin, a biguanide class of drug is most commonly used drug in Type-2 diabetic patients. Besides it has been used in PCOS and its other uses are reviewed and various clinical trials are going on. Methods: The authors reviewed the available data regarding pharmacological actions, uses of Metformin, etc. in Google, HINARI, PubMed for articles published in English using keywords ‘Metformin’, ‘Uses, ‘Antidiabetic’. Results: Reviews and trials are going on its other uses as anti-ageing, in breast cancer, as antidepressant, etc. Conclusion: Lack of proper clinical trials have limited its other uses and still far from recommending metformin as anti-ageing, anticancer, etc agent.
