ABSTRACT
Hydrocarbon contamination is one of the major environmental problems and has become an important concern for its remediation. Methods employed for the removal of hydrocarbons by mechanical and chemical means are expensive and limited usage than remediation by microbes due to their simplicity & cost effectiveness. Bioremediation offers a promising technology for the complete mineralization of hydrocarbons into CO2 and water. Biodegradation of petroleum compounds of both petrol and diesel were studied using enrichment culturing technique with mineral salt medium as a source of minerals and supplemented with hydrocarbons as a source of carbon. The isolated organisms were identified by morphological characteristics, biochemical properties and 16s rRNA sequencing &found as a Psychrobacter sps and Aeromicrobium sps.
