BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF BUNCHOSIA ARMENIACA

ABSTRACT
Family “Malpighiaceae” has been reported to possess diverse secondary metabolites having therapeutic properties. Among them only few has been analyzed so far. Therefore fruit of Bunchosia armeniaca being a member of family “Malpighiaceae” was analyzed to investigate its phytochemical availability using gas chromatography-mass spectrophotometer (GC-MS). GC-MS analysis of Bunchosia armeniaca revealed the presence of phytochemicals as 4H-Pyran-4-one,2,3-dihydro-3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl, 1H-Pyrrole-2,5-dione, 2-Furancarboxaldehyde, 5-(hydroxymethyl). 1-Nonadecene, 3-Eicosense,(E) ,2-Furanmethanol, 9,12,15-Octadecanoic acid, methyl ester(Z,Z,Z) and n-Hexadecanoic acid. Apart from thatDPPH assay (IC50 value) and Folin-Ciacalteu method calculated as Gallic acid equivalents (GAE) were carried out in order to find out its antioxidant potential. Phenolic content was reported as 870.80± 8.28
mg/GAE/100g whereas IC50 value was reported as0.9810.002 mg/mL.
