ANTIBACTERIAL STUDY OF BUTEA MONOSPERMA (LAMK.) TAUB. PLANT PARTS USING AGAR WELL DIFFUSION METHOD

ABSTRACT
Butea monosperma (Lamk.) Taub. is traditional important medicinal plant. The plant is used in Ayurvedic, Unani and Siddha medicine for various ailments. Antibacterial activity was studied using different solvent extracts of leaf, bark and flowers of Butea monosperma (Lamk.) Taub. by agar well diffusion method against different gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The alcoholic extracts of Butea monosperma (Lamk.) Taub leaf, bark and flowers showed antibacterial activity against gram positive as well as gram negative bacteria. 5μg/ml of Ciprofloxacin was used as positive control.
