COLORIMETRIC DETERMINATION OF ALBENDAZOLE USING PHENOL RED
Amrita Natekar* and Siddhi Gawas
ABSTRACT
A simple and cost-effective procedure is described for the determination of albendazole in bulk drugs as well as in tablets. The method is based on formation of complex between albenadzole and phenol red in acetone which is yellow in colour due to formation of ion-pair complex between albendazole and phenol red. The resulting solution was measured at 480 nm. The Beer-Lamberts law is obeyed over a range of 100-1000 μg/mL. The compound was found to yield a complex that was stable over a period of two hours. The regression coefficient was found to be. The LOD and LOQ of the developed method were 55.762 μg/ml and 82.170 μg/ml respectively. The
developed method was also used for analysing marketed sample.
Keywords: Albendazole, colorimetry, phenol red.
