ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to formulate and evaluate orodispersible tablet of Eletriptan hydrobromide. Eletriptan Hydrobromide is selective serotonin 5HT type 1B and 1D receptor agonist. It commonly used for relief of headaches in treatment of migraine, it belongs to BCS class I with relatively short elimination half-life of about 4 hours. Conventional tablets of Eletriptan hydrobromide are not capable of rapid action, which is required for immediate relief from migraine pain. The composition of tablet consist of Eletriptan hydrobromide, an active constitute, crosscarmellose sodium as superdisintegrant, wax mixture as a binder, encapsulated lemon flavour as a flavouring agent, aerosil used as a glident, saccharin and mannitol used as a natural
sweetener and bulking agent. The present study was aimed to develop a system that would achieve rapid absorption, rapid therapy, good mouth feel, lower dose, no water need and thus increases patient compliance. This system was developed in two stages: (a) Taste masking and (b) formulation of tablet. The drug resin complex (DRC) evaluated for the ion exchange complex formation. The tablets were evaluated for content uniformity, hardness, friability, dissolution, disintegration time and weight variation.
Keywords: orodispersible tablet, Eletriptan hydrobromide, mannitol, Indion 234, crosscarmellose sodium, superdisintegrant.
