STUDY OF MANUSCRIPT “VAIDYAMRUT”

ABSTRACT
Manuscript is a hand written document with age of at least 75 yrs old. Manuscript which are written around 16th century provides more information about Ayurveda. Such an unpublished manuscript (MSS) ‘Vaidyamrut’ is collected from Anandashram, manuscript library, Pune. Study of manuscript was done with the objective to improve knowledge, to know and explore new ideas in the treatment with different principles, to know distinct formulations and drugs. Manuscript study methodology was followed. Study reveals that it is written by author Moreshwar, a son of Shrimad Manikbhat Vaidya in 16th century with objective of to study new diseases, drugs, ingredients
and formulations by introducing the collection of nectar like drugs. Total 52 diseases as Pratikaras has been explained in three Alankar (chapters). Author has given more emphasis on use of Kashaya (Decoction) in most of the diseases with some new formulations. Total 42 Kashaya, 21 Kalpa, 10 Lepan karma has explained in various diseases. Madhu (Honey) used as Anupan 21 times throughout the manuscript with introduction of 6-7 new drugs as Anupan. Different treatment modules like Dhupan, Gandush, Karnapuarna, Principle of management viz, Dipan, Pachan, Daivavyapashraya treatment, Panchakarma etc., one formulation for more indications is also mentioned. In the last page of manuscript list of chapters, Paribhasha chapter and list of drugs for Sutika roga is given.
