ABSTRACT
Medicinal and herbal plants exist even before human being made their appearance on the earth. Herbal medicines are consider as the oldest form. Morchella esculents commonly known as gucchi or mushroom belong to family Morchellaceae have been extensively used for human welfare. Owing to rich medicinal properties. Mushroom have high nutritive value with unique flavor. Total population of mushrooms on earth are estimated to be 140,000 species in which only 10% are known. It is rich protenious, food equal to meet and fish. Mushroom is highly diversified in various part of India as well as outside India. It consists various properties like antioxidant property, Antimicrobial, Anti- inflammatory, Anti-tumor property etc. Mushrooms are known to be rich source of different bioactive substance like anti-cancer, anti-
plastic, anti-proliferative, anti HIV, anti-diabetics, Hepatoprotective, compound among other. The present report trees us about the mushroom diversity in India as well as their benefits towards human health and benefits such as food, medicine, drugs and other. Mushroom are chemically diverse and possess a wide spectrum of biological activities. Which can be explored in traditional medicines.
