ABSTRACT
“Green chemistry‖ is the new and fast field of chemistry. It involves the use of a set of principles that eliminates the use or generation of dangerous substances in the manufacture design and application of chemical reaction leading to various products and by products. Microwave induced organic reaction simple, fast, clean efficient and economical method for the organic synthesis of organic molecules and has developed as a tool towards green chemistry. Green chemistry can reduce the time of chemical reaction from hours to seconds. Conventional methods of organic reactions need very long heating
time, elaborate and difficult apparatus set up which result in higher cost and environmental pollution. The reaction rate of greener approach induced organic reaction increases ten to thousand times and the yield of the product increases by 10-40% compared to that by the conventional methods. Benzimidazole derivatives are reported with a wide range of pharmacological and biochemical activities, viz antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral anthelmintic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-neoplastic, depressive, hypnotic, anti-pyretic and anti-spasmolytic. Thus, we became interested in the study of synthesis of substituted benzimidazole by green synthesis techniques and furthermore to study their biological activities. Here in we described various methods of synthesis of benzimidazole derivative using green approach.
Keywords: Benzimidazole, Green route, Catalyst, Microwave.
