D Nagasamy Venkatesh* and Preety Rao
ABSTRACT
In recent years many modern technologies have been developed in pharmaceutical research and development area. The field of nanotechnology has revolutionary as substantial and technical and scientific growth. The drawbacks of conventional dosage like differentiating between normal cells and cancer cells and toxicity can be minimized by use of nanoparticles. Nanoparticles used as cancer drug delivery vehicles made up of different biodegradable materials such as synthetic or natural polymers, lipids or metals. Nano delivery allows more specific targeting of the drug, increasing efficacy and minimizing the side effects. There are two types of major nanoparticles inorganic nanoparticles, organic nanoparticles. Nanoparticles widely used for cancer treatments are Nano shells, liposomes, dendrimers, fullerenes based, carbon nanotubes, quantum dots, solid lipid nanoparticles, gold nanoparticles.
Keywords: Cancer, nanomedicines, methods of preparations, advantages, disadvantages.
