NANOCRYSTALS- AS ADVANCE DRUG DELIVERY
D Nagasamy Venkatesh* and Preety Rao
ABSTRACT
Nanotechnology refers to particle size less than 1000nm or 1 micrometer. Nanocrystals are unique because it contains a single crystal and does not contain any matrix material i.e. 100% of drug without any carrier. Nanocrystals can be formulated by using either of these methods bottom up, top down and combination of both using stabilizers which inhibits the crystals to form aggregation. Nanocrystals are widely used improve solubility of poorly water soluble drugs for oral drug delivery especially for BCS II class drugs. It can be administered by almost all the routes due to decreased size and increased surface area which leads to increased bioavailability. The nanosuspensions are dried and processed for marketing. It is available in market in the form of tablet, capsules and sachets. Rapamume®, emend®, TRICOR®, triglide® are some of the market available products.
