FORMULATION AND IN VITRO EVALUATION OF BILAYER TABLETS OF CETIRIZINE HYDROCHLORIDE

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the present study was to produce a new biphasic release system for cetrizine. A dual component tablet was formulated to contain a sustained release tableted core and an immediate release tableted coat which was prepared by direct compression method. The sustained release effect was achieved by using Noveon, Polyox205 and Compritol888. The in vitro dissolution tests of the prepared biphasic system showed a rapid release of the drug within 5 minutes followed by a slow drug release from the sustained release core at different time intervals depending on the composition of the matrix tablet core.
