ABSTRACT
The aim of the study was to evaluate the phytochemical composition of the n-hexane fraction of Heinsia crinita leave extract using Gas Chromatography-Mass spectroscopy (GC-MS). The Gas chromatography-Mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) analysis of the fractionated plant revealed the presence of 7 major important bioactive compounds namely 11, Tetradecen-1-ol-acetate (2.18%), Heptacosanoic acid (3.81%), n-hexadecanoic acid (22.37%), 11-Octadecenoic acid (6.44%), Phytol (37.85%), Oleic acid (20.85%) and Nonadecanoic acid (6.50%). These phytochemical components have been known to have antimicrobial, anticancer, antihyperglycemic, hypocholesterolemic, hypolipidemic and antioxidant activities. The latter activities may be responsible for the antidiabetic activity that has
been reported for the plant.
