ABSTRACT
Myocardial infarction is considered to be a major health problem in the world. Millingtonia hortensis is a large ornamental tree and a traditional medicinal plant. It is commonly known as Indian cork tree, akash neem. The tree is used in the treatment of asthma, sinusitis, cholagogue and liver diseases. As per literature survey, the cardioprotective effect of the silver nanoparticles using Millingtonia hortensis was not exploited, the present study was undertaken. To evaluate the cardioprotective effect male Wistar rats were used. Thirty male Wistar rat of 120- 150g were divided into five groups of six animals in each group. Group I served as control, received only pellet. Group II served as disease model and received isoproterenol
20mg/100g body weight. Group III was pretreated with silver nanoparticles of Millingtonia hortensis 100mg/kg body weight. Group IV was pretreated with standard drug verapamil 0.1g/100g body weight. Group V was pretreated with silver nanoparticles of Millingtonia hortensis 100mg/kg body weight. On 28th and 29th day isoproterenol was induced to group II, III, IV, intraperitonially. At the end of 30th day the animals were sacrificed. The serum was collected and used for the determination of cardiac marker enzymes CK-MB, LDH, AST and ALT, lipid profile total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-C, LDL-C, VLDL-C and biochemical markers urea, uric acid, creatinine and glycogen. Rats administered with silver nanoparticles synthesized from Millingtonia hortensis showed a significant cardioprotective effect when compared to ISO administered rats.
