Abstract

AN ASSESSMENT OF IN VITRO CYTOTOXICITY OF CHLORPYRIFOS ON NORMAL HUMAN PERIPHERAL LYMPHOCYTES BY MTT ASSAY

ABSTRACT

Chlorpyrifos is an organophosphorus pesticide which is used in pest control. To investigate the in vitro cytotoxicity of Chlorpyrifos on human peripheral blood lymphocytes, this study was conducted. Cytotoxicity of Chlorpyrifos was assessed on human peripheral blood lymphocytes by using MTT assay. Cells treated with 1μg/ml, 3 μg/ml, 10 μg/ml and 100 μg/ml showed 96.82%, 83.24%, 80.68% and 44.12% cell viability respectively. A dose related drop in viability in the survival of lymphocytes was found when they are treated with different concentration of Chlorpyrifos for 24 hours.
