AN OVERVIEW: A SACRED TREE FICUS RELIGIOSA (PEEPAL)

ABSTRACT
Ficus religiosa (Moraceae) is known to be a native Indian tree. It is a large evergreen tree found throughout India. It has been extensively used in traditional medicine for a wide range of ailments of the central nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, reproductive system, endocrine system, respiratory system and infectious disorders. The present review is an attempt to provide a detailed botanical description, classification, phytochemical study and pharmacological properties of the plant.
