PHARMACOLOGICAL REPUTITION OF VINCA PLANT-A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Catharanthus roseus (Apocynaceae), commonly known as the Madagascar periwinkle or rosy periwinkle and is an evergreen subshrub. The plant is cultitradvated as medicinal plant and as an ornamental. In Ayurveda the plant is used as medicine also in Chinese traditional medicinal system extracts from it have been used against various disease like. Diabetes, malaria and Hodskin’s disease. There are atleast 86 alkaloid extracted from the vinca genus. The Vincristine and Vinblastine has gained good reputition in the treatmen of Leukamia and Hodskin’s disease. In adition to this vincamine a
nootrpic agent has also been reported. Moreover several researchers has worked in different way about this plant and has reported several pharmacological activities about it. The present work is an attempt to highlight the Pharmacological reputition about vinca plant.
