ABSTRACT
The present investigation was carried out to evaluate the antimicrobial
activities of Nothapodytes nimmoniana. Dried leaf and stem powder of
Nothapodytes nimmoniana was successively extracted with petroleum
ether, chloroform, Acetone and methanol using Soxhlet. All extracts
were screened for its antimicrobial activity using agar well disc
diffusion method. The microorganisms used for antibacterial were
Bacillus thuringiensis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli,
Serratia marcescens, Proteus vulgaris and Salmonella paratyphi. The
microorganisms used for antifungal were Paecilomyces lilacinus,
Mucur spp,Tricoderma viride, Azospirillum lipofererum, Verticillum
lecanii, and Penicillium spp. The study confirms the antimicrobial
activities of Nothapodytes nimmoniana leaves and stem extracted using
various solvents, and is therefore, a potential drug that requires further
studies and development.
