ABSTRACT
The methanol, chloroform and aqueous extracts of Ludwigia perennis were evaluated for activity against medically important bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Proteus mirabilis and Proteus valgaris. The invitro antibacterial activity was performed by agar disc diffusion method. The chloroform and aqueous extracts showed very least activity when compared to methanolic extracts. The methanolic extract of Ludwigia perennis (Musalkathilai in Tamil) showed the maximum activity against all the species of bacteria. The use of plant extracts with known antibacterialproperties can be of great significance in therapeutic treatments.
Keywords: Ludwigia perennis, disc diffusion assay and clinical isolate bacteria.
