CASE REPORT ON METRONIDAZOLE INDUCED BREATHLESSNESS, HYPERTENSION, TACHYCARDIA AND CHILLS.

ABSTRACT
Acute cholecystitis is mainly treated with antibiotics or surgical procedure like laproscopic cholecystectomy. A 63years old male was admitted for abdominal pain. Also with the complaints of pain radiating till back and associated with one episode of vomiting; non bilious and was confirmed acute calculus cholecystitis. He was administered with antibiotics like metronidazole and piperacillin+tazobactum and other symptomatic treatments. After the administration of metronidazole reaction was observed like breathlessness, tachycardia, chills and hypertension. The drug was withdrawed and it was the patient was administered with Inj
furosemide, Inj pheniramine, Inj hydrocortisone and Nebulizer salbutamol for the consequences observed. Metronidazole is used for intra-abdominal infections and for other broad spectrum indication and for prophylaxis. The patient was stable and discharged on request. Adverse drug reaction is to be clinically given importance and to be analysed and reported.
