ABSTRACT
In the present investigation, Medicine men of the Santal tribal community of the District Bankura, W.B., INDIA. , were interviewed with several questionnaires to know the nature of medicines for contraceptive purposes. Out of many preparations, roots of three plants (e.g., Vitex negundo, Rauwolfia serpentina and Piper beetle) were collected sufficiently from the Medicine men/women inhabiting the hilly areas of the District. These roots were air dried, extracted with methanol and crude extracts were prepared in the laboratory. The plant extracts of these three preparations (at a definite dose) were applied to the female albino mice orally either individually or in combination for a definite period. In the present study the histopathological changes were observed within the ovary and uterus after thorough
experimentations. The results of this study clearly indicate the atrophied nature of the follicles within the ovary and non responsive nature of the uterus of the female albino mice.
