Abstract

PREPARATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF CHITOSAN BASED HYDROGEL

ABSTRACT

The aim of the present study is to prepare and characterized the chitosan based hydrogel. Hydrogel is a network of polymer chains that are water-insoluble, sometimes found as a colloidal gel in which water is the dispersion medium. Hydrogels absorb substantial amounts of aqueous solutions due to their high water content. .The hydrogel was prepared by crosslinking chitosan using crosslinking agent namely sodium tri-polyphosphate (TPP).It was characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis.
